Writing Assignment

1. Carefully write a short essay of not less then five fully developed paragraphs in response to the question below. This assignment is worth 70 points.

2. Before beginning your essay, carefully review the section How to Answer an Essay Question.

3. Quote and cite at least three reputable sources. For quotations use quotation marks. The standard citation should be in the form author, date of the work, and pages set within a parenthesis. Such as (Armstrong 1985:234-255). The full reference to the work by Mr. Armstrong is to be included in the Works Cited section. For Internet citations and Citing Electronic Sources and follow the humanities style.

4. Don't forget to Include a Works Cited section at the end of your essay.

Is the purpose of biblical archaeology to substantiate the biblical record? If you believe so, how would you answer the arguments against this purpose? If you believe that it is not, how would you answer the arguments for it?
