To the right is a list of those courses that a student must complete for a Certificate in Old Testament Studies.

The Certificate in Old Testament Studies program of study provides a comprehensive overview of the Hebrew Scriptures, designed to be completed online in one or two years, preparing men and women for Christian leadership and service. This certificate normally requires one academic year (two semesters) to complete on a part-time basis (see Suggested Schedule). Those who plan to complete the certificate over two or more years can take one or two courses a semester. These courses are not available in the summer session.

On successful completion of this program, students:

1. Can demonstrate the veracity and reliability of the Bible;

2. Demonstrate understanding of the Old Testament and its implication and application;

3. State how understanding of the social, political and religious background of the biblical world aids illumination of the Hebrew Scriptures;

4. Demonstrate correlation of relevant archaeological, historical and biblical material with important sites, roads, and features in the Bible lands;

5. Demonstrate understanding of the basic content of the books of the Old Testament;

6. Demonstrate the place of each book in its particular historical and canonical setting; and

7. Show ability to think theologically about Old Testament themes; and

8. Demonstrate familiarity with several critical methodologies for interpreting the Old Testament.

Upon entering the Certificate in Old Testament program a student is assigned an adviser who will be available for program advisement and career information. An adviser helps a student create a workable plan to meet his or her educational objectives within a reasonable time period.

For the conferring of the certificate students should apply for graduation in the semester they plan to graduate. For graduation, a student must have a minimum overall GPA of 2.0 in the 18 semester hours applicable to the certificate. Students may obtain an Application for Graduation from the Registrar. This application must be filed with the Registrar by midterm for graduation that semester.
