To the
right is a list of those courses that a student must complete for an
Associate of Theology degree. This program of study normally requires
two years of full-time study (see
Suggested Full-time Schedule). Students who plan to fulfill
program requirements on a part-time basis should seek to finish the degree program
in not more than seven consecutive calendar years (see
Suggested Part-time Schedule). These courses are not available in
the summer session.
Program Purpose
The purpose of this
program of study, which provides students with an in-depth study of
the Bible and related topics, is the preparation of servant-leaders
equipped with a sound theological base for leadership, teaching, and
ministry within a local church, primarily related to volunteer or
bi-vocational service.Program Objectives
On successful completion
of this program, a student should be able to:

Demonstrate the veracity and reliability of the Bible;

Understand and can explain the New Testament and its implication
and application;

Demonstrate and exemplify Christian leadership and values;

Know and
demonstrate understanding of biblical doctrines;
-
Demonstrate a working familiarity with the Hebrew Scriptures;
and
-
Show
understanding of the history of the Church.
Program Prerequisite
This
program is open only to regular (matriculated) students.
Program Requirements
This degree program requires successful completion of a
minimum of 66 semester hours including a
minimum of 36 semester hours in general education coursework and a major
in theology of 30
semester hours. For graduation, a student must have a minimum overall
GPA of 2.0 in the 66 semester hours applicable to the degree and a grade
of C or better in
ENGL 111 and
112.
Required general
education coursework consists of 9 semester hours in communications (ENGL
111, 112 and
SPCM 150), 3 semester hours in
humanities/fine arts (ENGL 261
or 262), 3 semester hours in
social /behavioral sciences (ANTH
220 or HIST 111), 3
semester hours in natural sciences/mathematics (ANTH
230 or MATH 162), 3
semester hours in health promotion (HPRO
114), and 15 semester hours in theology (THL
135, 136,
200,
211 and
212).
The theology major consists of
THL 226 and
250 and 24 semester hours in
upper division courses including THL 320,

A student can not apply more than 18 semester hours credit to an
associate degree when earned through the
Open Learning Program. Generally, it is best for one to apply for
admission as a regular (matriculated) student upon deciding on a specific
certificate, diploma or degree.

Program Advisement
Each student entering the
Associate of Theology degree program has an
assigned adviser who will be available for program advisement and
career information. An adviser helps a student create a workable
plan to meet his or her educational objectives within a reasonable
time period.
Application for Graduation
For the conferring of the
certificate students should apply for graduation in the semester
they plan to graduate.
An
Application for
Graduation
must be filed with the Registrar
by midterm for graduation that semester.
