We invite your gifts in support of the
Herbert W. Armstrong Excellence Award, the highest award recognition by the University upon an undergraduate
student. This HWA Excellence Award consists of a ribboned
medal bearing his likeness and a cash award conferred annually at
Commencement Exercises to the two outstanding baccalaureate degree
candidates exemplifying “the pursuit of excellence.”
Herbert
W. Armstrong, whose photo appears at the left, was a man of quality, excellence,
dedication and balance. He was equally at home with scholars, musicians,
athletes, diplomats and royalty. He was recognized and respected by leaders in
government, industry and education around the world. Until his death in 1986, he
was pastor general of the Worldwide Church of God and editor in chief of the
Plain Truth magazine which he began publishing in 1934. In 1947 Mr.
Armstrong founded Ambassador College in Pasadena, California. He was also
founder and chairman of the Ambassador International Cultural Foundation, known
for its cultural, charitable and humanitarian activities. Herbert Armstrong
visited more than 70 countries proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom of God, and
he was highly honored by heads of state in such critical areas as China and
Japan, Black and South Africa, Israel and Egypt. He authored several books
including The Mystery of the Ages, The Missing Dimension in Sex,
The Incredible Human Potential and The United States and Britain in
Prophecy. His works also included The Seven Laws of Success and
his Autobiography. Mr. Armstrong's versatility gives meaning to this
award—“in the pursuit of excellence.”
